Recently, a cable business network food industry entrepreneur interview caught my attention. It was a showcase about the New York trend setting burger joint: POP BURGER. Inspired by fast food American classic platters and simple and fresh flavors as a catalyst to do business and have fun. This burger joint is now rescuing and the old formula for doing business : the synergy between food and entertainment. The same tactic used for kids by other chains now in the adult world.
With two locations, the original is located in the heart of the meatpacking district in New York City and the newest addition is in Midtown East. A group of DJs play a wide range of music including rock and roll, top 40, hip hop, house, dance, 80s and even reggae.
A white and simplistic eye catching packaging design is helping this start up gain momentum. Another key element of their marketing has been the different celebrity visits to their two locations in Manhattan , which have increased their awareness across town.
Visit their site and preview their menu. They are launching an online ordering system.
Finally, they take reservations for parties of two to two hundred people, catering to your specific needs of service including open bar, hors d’œuvres, à la carte options and sit-down dinners.
Definitively this is a destination to consider during your next visit to the Big Apple.
I just came across what might look like the most addicting snack ever...the Mighty Cone. Based in Austin, Texas this mobile food truck is why I insist that no one should ever judge food by the location. Apparently the mighty cone is taking over Austin and although they serve sliders and shakes, the mightiest of them all is the Hot & Crunchy Cone (pix above).
For $5, the Hot & Crunchy is wrapped within a fresh tortilla shell filled with deep-fried avocado, chicken or shrimp, sesame seeds, almonds, chili flakes and cornflakes.
The mighty cone officially launch in March 2009 on South Congress Avenue in downtown Austin. Should you be in the neighborhood you gotta check them out.

Frankie's Pizza is an icon in the Miami food circuit. Not only does it offer perhaps the best pizza in Miami, but its been doing so since 1955. When the B4B crew went to visit Frankie's, we were hosted by none other than Frankie's daughter Roxanne, who runs the place with her son and sister.
It was amazing to see how Frankie's has preserved many of the same traditions started by Frank B. Pasquarella more than 50 years ago and how the pizza has maintained the quality that started it all. The pizza you'll find at Frankie's is square (due to the pans) and has the crispiest crust that we've ever tasted. Frankie's has a three-step rising and cooking process that insures the crust maintains the freshness while providing that perfect crunch that all crusts were meant to have.
We encourage everyone that's a pizza fan to treat yourself and visit Frankie's. We promise you will not be disappointed. For those of you outside Miami, Frankie's actually offers delivery across the country or internationally through their half-baked pizza option.
If you want something special and off the menu ask for the square burger...check out our exclusive interview to find out more...

Tacos
El Toro Taco is one of the only places in South Florida that serves authentic Mexican food. Open since 1974 and located in Homestead, Florida, it is approximately a 45 minute drive from Downtown Miami. This family owned business serves good tacos, burritos, and fajitas but they do not serve alcohol. They do allow you to BYOB. I have seen people bring in coolers full of beer.
People that have been coming here for years complain that the service and food have deteriorated but it has not stopped El Don from eating here regularly.

For all you Terminator fans out there check out the Pizza Hut Terminator Salvation site for exclusive footage from the movie. Although we think it's a cool initiative, nevertheless this is one of those rare moments where the Hut actually gets positive marks on b4b.
I mean honestly...you think the Hut would have been his first choice...I think not.

A) The famous first lines from Kevin Bacon in his film debut in "Animal House" B) The famous lines I say after every meal at Sir Pizza C) Both A) and B)
If you said C you are correct. Sir Pizza serves one of the best pizzas anywhere. Known for their thin crust pizzas sliced into squares, Sir Pizza is an institution in South Florida. For years, people have been making the long drive into Key Biscayne (a new location just opened in Coral Gables) to have one of their famous pies. Expect a long line but it is well worth the wait.
The pepperoni pizzas are by far the best in Miami! C for yourself!
It was all that Dan Marino's fault, everyone knows that. If he had held the ball, laces out, like he was supposed to, Ray would never have missed that kick. Dan Marino should die of gonorrhea and rot in hell. Would you like a cookie, son? - Mrs. Finkle (Ace Ventura)
If you happen to share Mrs. Frinkle's thoughts on Miami golden boy Dan Marino you should not visit the Miami Football Sandwich Shop. A family owned establishment for decades, this Miami football shrine to Dan Marino and the Dolphins serves up great subs in a hall of fame type of environment.Located in Little Hati, this sandwich shop is also known as the home of the Zonker, named after legendary Dolphins running back Larry Csonka. The Zonker is served on a sub roll with salami, ham, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, oil, and mayo. For under $4 and winner of the 2008 Miami New Times Best Hoagie Award , the Zonker is a definitely a touchdown in our book.
Make sure you try the homemade cookies...they're huge!

Seattle
If you're visiting Seattle, make sure you make a pit stop at Red Mill. It's difficult to decide between fresh fish or a fast food joint. Before you go in , be aware that cellphones are banned as well as plastic money. But believe me you have to try this. Their burgers are flame broiled which has become their characteristic seal.
The original Red Mill was located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle and opened in 1937. It closed in 1967. It was known as a diner and ice creamery with table and counter service. The current Red Mills were opened first in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood in 1994 and the second location in the Interbay neighborhood in 1998.
In its first year of operation Red Mill received honorable mention in the best burger category in the Seattle Weekly's annual Best of Seattle issue. It has subsequently won the best burger award every year since, along with numerous other accolades.
Owners John and Babe Shepherd named the Red Mill in honor of their two late sisters, Kathleen and Monica Shepherd, both of whom worked at the original Red Mill as waitresses and would bring home french fries and other goodies for their younger siblings including Michael and Mark Shepherd.
Do not hesitate to share with us your experience at this famous burger place.
When thinking about ethnic fast food in Miami , you have to keep in your mental list the famous Colombian "perros and burgers." Usually found on street type joints, nevertheless you should also consider some of the gourmet type options.
Recently opened in Coral Gables, you may find Al Carbon an interesting alternative for getting the great perro-hawaiano or a stuffed burger. Yes , a stuffed burger with what ever you want: pineapple, cheese, mushrooms... This stuffing technique is a traditional method used in a certain region of Colombia (Atlantic Coast) for the preparation of arepa (fast food thick corn tortillas normally served for breakfast). In that particular area of the country they will stuff the arepa with eggs , seal it back and then fry it, a similar technique is being employed here to stuff the burgers.
You will also be able to find the famous "salchipapa" with "salsa rosada" signature dish served at lunch nationwide through all the high schools. I am doing some research in order to find the origins of this infamous dish, I will write more about it in another post.
Worth visiting. When you do , please give us your feedback of the place, we would like to read your comments.
Obviously May is our favorite month here at b4b and we hope everyone is enjoying great burgers all month long. White Castle has been the official sponsor of National Hamburger month, which is 17 years going strong. In 1992, White Castle sponsored National Hamburger Week, in honor of the brand's claim to being the first hamburger fast food chain in the US. In 1993, the event was extended to National Hamburger Month.

Miami
A Miami institution since 1960, Arbetter serves the best hot dogs in Miami. Many famous athletes, including A-ROD, come here for their famous chili or kraut dogs. The hot dogs here are boiled not grilled and the inside of the joint has not changed much since it moved to its current location in 1972. You still get to sit in the elementary school chairs, free refills when you say "I love Larry Bird" or "I love Bob Cousy" and free baked beans the day after the Boston Red Sox win the World Series. When it finally happened in 2004, the line wrapped around the building.
The King would also eat here when he worked in Miami in the 60's and 70's.
Obama and Biden really wanted burgers today. They took the motorcade to a local burger joint in Arlington, Virginia called Ray's Hell Burger. Only one issue: they don't serve fries! Obama really wanted fries but settled on some cheesy tater puffs.
